3 Blogging Myths Holding Back Your Remodeling Business

When I talk to custom home builders or design-build remodeling companies, I often hear the same concerns about blogging:

  • “Does anyone even read blogs anymore?”
  • “I’m not a writer—I can’t blog.”
  • “Blogging takes too much time, and I need results now.”

If you’ve ever thought the same, you’re not alone. But these myths are holding you back from one of the most effective tools for attracting leads and building trust with homeowners. Let’s set the record straight:

Myth #1: Nobody reads blogs anymore.

Truth: Blogs remain one of the top ways to drive traffic to your website. Homeowners researching remodeling projects want answers to their questions—answers you can provide. From “How much does a kitchen remodel cost in [Your City]?” to “Top 5 Tips for Aging-in-Place Design,” blogs establish your expertise and build trust.

The above is an image of website traffic from a client’s site for the blog article: How Much Does a Bathroom Remodel Cost in [his city]. We published this article on Sep 24, 2024, and it already generates over 180 monthly visits.

Myth #2: You need to be a professional writer to blog.

Truth: You don’t need a degree in English to write a compelling blog post. The key is understanding your audience and addressing their needs. You’ve already got the expertise—blogging is simply sharing what you know in a way that resonates with homeowners.

Often, it’s obscure blog topics that generate the right traffic. For instance, one of my clients loves pets, so they make it a point to incorporate their clients’ pets into their marketing efforts (and oh my goodness, I’ve seen some adorable pets working with these folks!).

One blog post about home dog washing stations has garnered 198 clicks and 10,066 impressions in just three months—talk about impactful! It’s clear that homeowners are drawn to solutions that cater to their furry family members. Highlighting features like pet-friendly spaces not only drives traffic but also reassures potential clients that their beloved pets are a priority during a remodeling project.

Myth #3: Blogging is too time-consuming.

Truth: A well-planned content calendar and a few time-saving techniques can make blogging manageable. Plus, the long-term ROI is worth the effort. Blogs don’t just disappear after a day or two (like social media)—they keep working for you, driving traffic and leads months or even years after publication.

Think about it this way: each blog post is like planting a seed. With the right strategy, that seed grows into a steady stream of traffic and leads. Tools like AI writing assistants, content templates, and pre-researched topic lists can dramatically reduce your time investment.

Additionally, you can repurpose blog content for newsletters, social media posts, or even client guides, making every post work harder for your business.

A series of “how much does it cost” articles can be transformed into a comprehensive guide, like the one we recently created for a client. Since its launch in mid-September, the guide has attracted 368 new email newsletter subscribers, helping the client establish credibility, build trust, and nurture stronger connections with their audience.

Blogging is far from dead.

In 2025, it will thrive as a cornerstone of effective marketing for local businesses (like yours). Homeowners aren’t just looking for a remodeler—they’re searching for a trusted expert. Your blog can make you the go-to choice in your market.
